I designated this as low importance stub because while it is a popular tourist attraction along route 66, it does not indicate any cultural, social or gastronomical significance.

--Jeremy ( Blah blah...) 08:02, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

Yup I understand. If it was of higher importance, it would have been created already :D. <3 Tinkleheimer TALK!! 08:05, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
Corn dogs certainly indicate gastronomical significance! Have you ever eaten one Jeremy? Oh, and Tinkleheimer (what a funny name) thanks for the quick response below, I am certain we can come to an amiable agreement about the wording here and at DYK.--IvoShandor (talk) 08:19, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

Ivo, I prefer Stay Puft Marshmallows. Yeah, I love the idea of deep fried, corn bread coated hot dogs. You can top it off with a deep-fried Mars Bar. Great for the coronary arteries.

I usually go for the curly fries, no cheese, when I am the State fair, or in my case States Fair. --Jeremy ( Blah blah...) 15:55, 8 June 2008 (UTC)

If you have a need for food that clogs the arteriesand you are in Springfield, IL, I suggest a Horseshoe sandwich, Food Network did a great piece on it for one their shows, about, you guessed it, food. I will be indulging Saturday!--IvoShandor (talk) 12:20, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Dubious

I made a comment at the DYK page but the claim that Waldmire invented the corn dog on a stick is a dubious at best. It is based pretty much solely on his own personal claim. See [1], an Aug. 16, 2006 Chicago Tribune article touched on the fact that this claim was debated. Although the article is no longer available on the Trib website it is available from ProQuest Historical newspapers database which is available at most libraries. I used to have access but since leaving the university would have to actually go to the library to get it, I assure you, however, that I am not making this up. :)IvoShandor (talk) 07:56, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

I didn't intend for him to be considered THE inventor. I understand theres a lot of controversy (well not as much) surrounding the original creator.<3 Tinkleheimer TALK!! 08:03, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
That's fine but the article doesn't make that clear, it states he invented it with his friend. Just want to make sure this is clear in the article, as well as in the DYK hook.IvoShandor (talk) 08:15, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
I will try to remember to fix that tomorrow, I should really be getting to sleep soon. :) <3 Tinkleheimer TALK!! 08:22, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
I will try to get to it tonight, I am only "at work". I was thinking of using the cite from Springfield, Illinois, since I added it there and read the article during the GA push for that article. Perhaps a similar wording to what is there: The corn dog on a stick was invented in the city under the name “Cozy Dog,” although there is some debate to the actual origin of the popular snack. Obvioulsy we would tweak this to fit in here but the gist is there.--IvoShandor (talk) 08:27, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
I just now re-read the article (sorry didn't occur to me), I see where it can be confusing. I will try and find a ref that we could use to say that it is disputed later today. It is now 3:30 AM. Haha<3 Tinkleheimer TALK!! 08:35, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

I added a sentence to make it less dubious. Please tell me if it is less dubious :). <3 Tinkleheimer TALK!! 06:31, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Stub

I don't feel that this article is of stub quality, as it has 3 different sources and is sourced almost every sentence and provides plenty of information of the Cozy Dog Establishment. <3 Tinkleheimer TALK!! 08:21, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

I think it was rated stub because each project has their own idea of what stub and start etc equals. Some suggestions for bringing it up to start (although it is close and I might rate it as such for the IL project of which I am a member) would be to develop some sections, such as "History", "Cuisine" etc and possibly adding a photo, which I am going to do right now. --IvoShandor (talk) 08:47, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
Ahh you have a photo? Awesome. I was going to steal a digi cam from someone and go take a photo of their sign outside.<3 Tinkleheimer TALK!! 08:48, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
Good image, do you think it could be included with WP:DYK hook? <3 Tinkleheimer TALK!! 08:52, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
(EC)The photo came from the National Scenic Byways Program and has been on Commons forever, I originally found it when gutting the Springfield article last year. I think it would be a great photo to include with the hook. Of course no guarantee it'll be used with it but it may be. I also added two categories. Sorry to keep you up here, I am at work with nothing to do.IvoShandor (talk) 08:55, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

(undent) Can I have your job? I will go ahead and add the image with the hook and state you as a co-editor. <3 Tinkleheimer TALK!! 08:56, 5 June 2008 (UTC) PS. Going to sleep now. I need to.

Haha, go to sleep, no need to note me as co-editor, just doin' my part for Illinois related material. Oh, and thanks for creating this page, it was one of the many I meant to do when I worked on the Springfield area but never got to. No need to fell compelled to reply if you see this tonight.--IvoShandor (talk) 09:04, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
Living within walking distance of it, I decided it was my responsibility :) Sleep now. Typing this while laying down lol. <3 Tinkleheimer TALK!! 09:08, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
Cool, I will be in your city on June 14 for political inspiration, and a tour of many historic sites (there will be many photos taken and hopefully added to Commons for use here on WP), I am chairing a mayoral campaign where I live, which I can't say where it is because the campaign hasn't been announced, but it rhymes with MeKalb. :) --IvoShandor (talk) 09:11, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
Hehe cool. If you're ever campaigning in Meijer, and see a tall blonde guy by the Pets department, that's me. :D <3 Tinkleheimer TALK!! 09:14, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

I dunno re de-stubbing: while there are references, they're all broad and the text reads like it was smashed together with little regard for grammar or logical flow; the subjects of the sentences jump around, and people appear with little introduction. We jump from the original price of a corn dog to Buzz and Sue, then pop from 2001 to 1996? I did what I could to get the grammar under control, but I just don't know the answers to some of the questions begged by this article. Piledhigheranddeeper (talk) 16:01, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] While Searching for History of the Corndog

Found a lot of sources that say Springfield, Illinois.

[2] [3] [4] (This one states that others claim to have invented the corn dog, but the cozy dog was original)

I still can't find any sources that say otherwise, and I used a neutral search also. I will try and neutralfy it. <3 Tinkleheimer TALK!! 06:25, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

The thing is, and correct me if I am wrong, but it seems likely that the claim is still based on the assertion of the "inventor". However, if sources say it, there isn't much we can do other than note the discrepancy reported by the Chicago Tribune, which I would say is reliable enough to not discount.--IvoShandor (talk) 12:41, 6 June 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, that Chicago Tribune article if definitely reliable/notable enough to add :). If you'd like, you could add it :).<3 Tinkleheimer TALK!! 03:27, 7 June 2008 (UTC)
Added, finally, I had to go to the library to access the Trib article, just to make sure (I hadn't read it since last February). Along with a citation to the interview with Waldmire to help back up the Trib article, although either by itself probably would have sufficed, better two than one. :)IvoShandor (talk) 10:50, 13 June 2008 (UTC)
