The Coventry Bees are a Motorcycle speedway team based at Brandon near Coventry, England. They won the British Elite League Speedway Championship in 2007, defeating the Swindon Robins in the Grand Final of the Championship Playoffs. It was the eighth time that the club have been crowned League Champions, following on from successes achieved in 1953, 1968, 1978, 1979, 1987, 1988 and 2005.
On October 26, 2007, the Bees lifted the Elite League Knockout Cup for the third time in their history defeating the Swindon Robins in the final, completing a clean sweep of all three major trophies, having already annexed the Craven Shield by beating Swindon Robins and the Poole Pirates over the three leg final.
The treble achieved in 2007 made Scott Nicholls the most successful Coventry Bees captain in their history, over his 3 year captaincy era.[citation needed]
The Bees are consistently amongst the top teams in the country, and have an avid following amongst Coventry's sporting community.[citation needed] They are presently owned by Allen Trump, who used to own the Oxford Cheetahs and is attempting to revive the Exeter Falcons. Brandon Stadium owner Avtar Sandhu leased the club to Trump in November 2007[1] after becoming disillusioned with the way the sport was heading under the leadership if the BSPA.[2] The promotion licence is held jointly by Colin Pratt.
