Template:Country flagicon2 is permanently protected from editing, as it is a heavily used or visible template. Substantial changes should be proposed here, and made by administrators if the proposal is uncontroversial, or has been discussed and is supported by consensus. Use {{editprotected}} to attract the attention of an administrator in such cases. Any contributor may edit the template's documentation to add usage notes, categories or interwiki links.

[edit] fix for alt tag text

Would it be possible to change the code to be as follows:

[[Image:{{ #if: {{{variant|}}} | {{{flag alias-{{{variant}}}}}} | {{{flag alias}}} }}|{{ #if: {{{size|}}} | {{{size}}} | 22x20px }}|border|Flag of {{{flag name alias|{{{alias}}}}}}]]

This change would allow for a "flag name alias" variable to be used in country_data template for countries where "alias" is not the same as "shortname alias". This variable would allow the alt text of flags to appear correctly. For example, in the case of Ireland, the alt text of the flag image would be able to read "Flag of Ireland" not "Flag of Republic of Ireland", as it does at present. The change would also allow related sporting flags (e.g. {{fb|Ireland}}) to display alt tags correctly. --sony-youth^pléigh 22:04, 22 July 2007 (UTC)
