Readers may want to know why a postal customer would want to place the FIM-A mark on a letter rather than simply omitting it entirely. It seems there would be no difference.

It would help if someone could explain whether the USPS processes mail differently when the FIM-A mark is present or absent. Does its presence facilitate processing?
