You are incorrect in stating that "New Mexico" was settled under Jose de Escandon. Escandon founded Nuevo Santander (now Tamualipas and Texas south of the Nueces River)in the mid 18th century. New Mexico had been settled long before, in the early 17th century, under Juan de Onate. VTY, Victor M. Carrera
I agree that this article should be split. I was planning to do that when I get to this point in my articles on New Spain viceroys. That will be only a few more days. (All the other viceroys have separate articles.) Rbraunwa 22:33, 9 May 2006 (UTC)
