[edit] History

With the release of version 3.5, Courier became freeware, but the apparent intent is to revert to a fee-based client after the software is upgraded to version 4.0. Courier 3.5 is not compliant with Vista and does not support SSL, both of which seem to be goals of version 4.0.

Courier provides encryption in the inbox and retains addresses and mail and attachments together.

Courier supports the POP3, IMAP and SMTP protocols and provides several features for HTML security.

The beta test phase for version 3.6 is anticipated to be completed in early 2008, at which time it will be Vista-compliant. Full features are targeted for version 4.0, anticipated sometime in 2008.
