From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

County Route 689 is a county highway located in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. It lies entirely within Old Bridge Township.

[edit] Route Description

CR 689 begins at NJ 34 and extends east along Morristown Road and Cliffwood Avenue to the Monmouth County border; it continues in Monmouth County as County Route 6A.

[edit] History

CR 689 has been subject to some changes in recent years, and can be considered to have "migrated". Originally, it consisted of Amboy Road, which runs from (County Route 516 to NJ 34. At some point in the 1990s, County Route 640 (Morristown Road and Cliffwood Avenue) and County Route 641 (Matawan Road and Laurence Parkway) were absorbed into 689, extending the route north to NJ 35. This eliminated routes 640 and 641. Matawan Road south of Cliffwood Avenue was designated as County Route 689 Spur.

A more recent renumbering creates two new routes, 626 (Matawan Road and Laurence Parkway) and 645 (Amboy Road). CR 689 Spur was absorbed into the new Cr 626.
