County Route 626 is a county highway in Cape May County in the U.S. state of New Jersey. The route runs from County Route 604 in West Cape May north to New Jersey Route 47 in Rio Grande.

[edit] Route description

CR 626 heads north from CR 604 on Broadway and passes through West Cape May. It then enters Lower Township where it becomes Seashore Road. It then heads to the bridge over the Cape May Canal, where there is a break in the route as it becomes the unsigned New Jersey Route 162 over the canal. Past the bridge, CR 626 resumes and intersects U.S. Route 9, continuing north on Seashore Road. It heads north, following the Cape May Seashore Lines railroad line to the west. The route continues into Middle Township, where it becomes Railroad Avenue and continues to NJ 47 in Rio Grande.

The route was originally designated Route S4C by the New Jersey Legislature in 1929 as a spur of Route 4 (now U.S. Route 9), beginning at Bennett and running south to West Cape May. This, along with Route 4 north from Bennett, was part of the old 1850s Cape May Turnpike, bypassed by 1920 with a new alignment that avoided several crossings of the West Jersey and Seashore Railroad (Pennsylvania Railroad) and Atlantic City Railroad (Reading Company), including one at Bennett.
