Counterpart International is a nonprofit organizations based in the USA, which declares its dedication to building a just world through service and partnership. Founded in 1965 by Elizabeth and Bryant Silverstein and an Australian Marist Missionary priest Stanley Hosie as “Foundation of the People of the South Pacific”. At first, it was a niche organization for helping people on the island nations of the Pacific Basin - Oceania. At present, the Counterpart International activities cover about 60 countries all over the world, including CIS, Central Asia, Latin America, Africa, the Caribbean.
By its statement, the Organization offers options and access to tools for sustained social, economic and environmental development and forge strategic partnerships in the public and private sectors.
Counterpart International has programs in the fields of civil society, economic development, environment and conservation, food security and sustainable agriculture, global health and child survival, humanitarian assistance.
In 2001, Counterpart International, together with other United States non-governmental organisations Project Hope and World Medical Relief, supplied medicines and medical equipment worth USD 302,457 for the emergency services of Saint Paul Hospital in Hanoi. [1].
In 2004 Counterpart International, according to its report, spent $102,577,837 on its non-commercial programs.[2]
The organization is based in Washington D.C., USA.
