Count of Mértola

The title Count of Mértola (Conde de Mértola) was granted to General Schomberg by Afonso VI of Portugal, in 1663, in reward to the former's services with the Portuguese army. The title has passed through female lines various times and is usually held concurrently by the Barons Darcy de Knayth and Conyers.
