Cound

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Cound is a village and civil parish in the English county of Shropshire. It is home to the locally famous Riverside Inn (Peter, Lindsey, William & George Stanford-Davis) and features some interesting Salopian history. Most locals pronounce the village "COO nd" however those who have Cound as their surname pronounce it as "COW nd" (as in rhymes with pound, round or hound.)

The village of Cound is split in two by the Coundmoor Brook , the earlier part of the villagis where the church stands. The nearby bridge at Cantlop is the oldest Iron bridge still in everyday use it is dated 1796. Cound bridge is actually built 1797, and the oldest iron bridge still in every day use. Cantlop bridge is a few miles away, built in 1820, and not in use.( see Telford iron bridges).
