[edit] My Questions
[edit] Q1 - Can acronyms be used in titles?
{{helpme}}
Here is my article about Department of Computer Engineering and Informatics. The title of this article is also the name of that University Department. Is it better to add at the end of this article's title the acronym of Department's name (which is CEID)? Or using acronyms isn't a good title policy? Costas Athan (talk) 11:25, 3 January 2008 (UTC)
- I believe the normal convention would be to omit the acronym. In this case it seems far more important that the title indicate that the article is about the Department of Computer Engineering and Informatics of the University of Patras, which is currently not even mentioned in the article. [edit] Q2 - Help for choosing the right title!
{{helpme|Which of those two following versions of article's Department of Computer Engineering and Informatics title is most proper according to Wikipedia's titling policy for the article:
- Department of Computer Engineering and Informatics, University of Patras, (CEID)
- Department of Computer Engineering and Informatics of the University of Patras, (CEID)?
Has the acronym to be in parenthesis?}} Costas Athan (talk) 20:15, 3 January 2008 (UTC)
- Neither. As stated above, convention is to avoid acronyms. I would leave the article titled as it is, as it is unlikely there will be another department at another university with the same name.
- On a side note, you may want to consider cleaning up the article. Much of the text is fairly promotional, and it is important that all articles on Wikipedia be from a neutral point of view. Good luck with it! Hersfold (t/a/c) 01:28, 4 January 2008 (UTC)
