The Costa Luminosa is the 13th ship in the Costa Cruise Lines fleet. The keel of the ship was laid out in Fincantieri's Marghera shipyard in early October 2007.
The ship will be 92,700 tons and 292 meters long. It will offer the highest number of verana accommodations in the entire Costa fleet. 772 of its 1,130 cabins will have this feature.
The Costa Luminosa will feature the latest innovations from the Costa team. Included will be the Samsara Spa, which is will be one of the largest wellness centers in all cruises. It also have a pool deck with a retractable magrodome extending over two pools and a Grand Prix race car driving simulator. Also, the Costa Luminosa will have an 18-hole championship golf course simulator.
Costa Cruises Chairman & CEO Pier Luigi Foschi has said the following on the ship: "The Costa Luminosa and her sister ship will be the result of a brand new design concept, whereby – rather than size – we have concentrated on combining the best aspects of our product, such as wellness, exclusive itineraries, art and top quality cuisine, which are especially popular with more and more of our guests."[1]
The ship is expected to make sail in Spring 2009. Its sister ship has been transferred to Cunard Line to be the new MS Queen Elizabeth, which will launch in March 2010.
