[edit] Thanks a lot

Thank you for your contributions to my article White Hawk (ecovillage). Your help is greatly appreciated. :) --jmeeter 03:32, 3 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] ComponentOne

You marked the ComponentOne page for removal. I am not, nor have I ever been, an employee of ComponentOne. I created this page because ComponentOne is an important third-party component developer for the Microsoft Windows platform. Cayuga (talk) 14:02, 17 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks...

[edit] Looking for some help...

Hi, I am attempting to build an article on the Sphinx Head Society at Cornell University and the article has been flagged for deletion. As someone that has made substantial contributions to the Cornell University page. I was hoping that you could offer some support to our addition. Thank you very much. Cornell1890 (talk) 17:50, 10 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Sphinx Head

The only proof of their membership would either be Cornell Daily Sun ads or pages in the Cornellian yearbook. Are those sufficient? I would look at other secret society pages for the same inconsistency (just to be fair). GoBigRed1865 (talk) 03:31, 11 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] ComponentOne

Hi. I have been trying to establish a page for ComponentOne, but you keep knocking it down. Please explain to me the difference between the page I created for ComponentOne and the existing (and accepted) page for Developer Express. -Pete —Preceding unsigned comment added by Cayuga (talkcontribs) 22:44, 12 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned non-free media (Image:David J Skorton.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:David J Skorton.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot (talk) 21:01, 15 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Utica NY issues?

How in the world is my adding a link for a BETTER view of what Utica is a bad thing?

How is it not: Art? Media?

The newspapers make money. The TV stations make money.

So far, I have not sold any images to people because of the website, they ALL meet with me to discuss things and generally I HELP them.

I have contacts in the Mayors office, the landmark and historical society. If they can have links, why would my links be removed? Again, if someone comes here to look into Utica for whatever reason, what does visiting my site HURT, more than HELP?

I know what you are trying to eliminate, but I am not going that route. My connections run much deeper locally and I do not need this, but I really think it is a very nice FREE service to look at images we take for the city.

Bottom line, there is NO fee to visit our site. Nor are we pushy about buying images.

Please contact me @ D~at~theshadowman.com

Well, otherwise, I hope you had a wonderful New Year!

[edit] speedy deletion

Hi. Please do not nominate articles for deletion without first offering your explanations on the article's talk page. You will find that by doing this you discover much more of the relevant information. This will also keep you from writing off an article for deletion solely because you believe it is not notable. After reviewing your edit history and talk page, I feel obligated to ask you to please not do this awesome encyclopedia a disservice by unscrupulously and pejoratively editing WP articles. I welcome your qualitative contributions to WP! 11:59, 10 January 2008 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Guessture (talk • contribs) 11:50, 10 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] AfD nomination of List of residents and natives of Ithaca, New York

An editor has nominated List of residents and natives of Ithaca, New York, an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of residents and natives of Ithaca, New York and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 15:14, 10 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Are you ever going to respond to my Utica NY post below? Man up please.

Please handle this in a mature and professional way, rather than deleting my edits then ignoring me..

[edit] Wikipedia Meetup in Ithaca?

I will be attending Reunion on June 6-8, and I thought we could organize a Wikipedia gathering. Perhaps immediately following the Quill and Dagger and Sphinx Head breakfasts on Sunday morning. Are you interested? I am also willing to meet in DC. Racepacket (talk) 23:02, 5 February 2008 (UTC)

  • Yes. You do not have an email on file, so I can't email you. Affix a .com for my email and I would like to meet you. Racepacket (talk) 21:16, 14 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Kayla Festa, Corning NY

I added the "citation needed" link after your reinsertion of Kayla M. Festa. For a person to be called "famous" I'd assume that they should at least appear in a web search. You may know something that I don't about this person...

I also did some research on the Ginger Snap and learned that Ginger Snaps have been around since the time of medieval fairs. If she is truly the inventor she should be listed and referenced from that wikipedia page as well.

Please let me know if I'm wrong.

^^^Thanks for the quick response. Tech70a (talk) 05:04, 16 February 2008 (UTC)tech70a

[edit] How do you archive

My talk page is getting really cluttered up. I know there are bots that automatically archive talk pages. How do you get them to archive your own? Saksjn (talk) 13:47, 13 March 2008 (UTC)

Thanks, I'll do that as soon as I can. Saksjn (talk) 13:59, 13 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Cornell Endowment Number

The current source for the endowment in Cornell University's infobox states the number is $5.5 billion. If it is currently $6.5 billion than a more recent source is needed to reflect that. Bashen (talk) 20:39, 15 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] American Football

I'm not into RV battles. The reason I changed the Ivy League article is because the phrase Ivy League is known internationally (mainly because of movies). Internationally the phrase Football is used differently in different countries. Take a look at the football article. In fact, What you call soccer really called association football. I hope you understand and agree to revert the change to the Ivy League article yourself. KevinCarmody (talk) 12:07, 21 April 2008 (UTC)

You have a very good point, and yes, I do know that the rest of the world plays soccer without helmets and a somewhat more spherical ball:). However, articles for Pacific-10 Conference and Big Ten Conference, (homes of Michigan, Berkeley, Stanford: all world recognized schools) reference football in the opening sections, but refer to it as plain Football, wikified to link to American Football. I've tried searching around WP for precedent on this, but cannot seem to find anything. My gut feeling is that it is proper to refer to a polysemic term in the vernacular of the country the article is about; so in this case, just football. What are your thoughts on this? Have you come across any relevant policy, either way, we should be following? cOrneLlrOckEy (talk) 13:38, 21 April 2008 (UTC)
It's a tough one this. If we look at the article American Football we see two key points. That American Football is a derivative and that calling it football is a nickname (see infobox). In that case I would have thought that it should be referred to by its proper name. Is there precedent? Well, American article will tend to be edited by Americans, where the more common nickname is inevitably going to be used. To be honest, I suspect this is far bigger than between us and I'm not going to spend my time trying to convince American Wikipedians to refer to their sport in a way that suits the rest of the world. To summarise, I'm going to leave you Yanks to it :) KevinCarmody (talk) 14:17, 21 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Asking for your opinion

Do you think that this band is notable enough for an article? Several newspapers have mentioned it and they have played in some major festivals. Saksjn (talk) 23:29, 27 April 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the comment on Terra Terra Terra. They're trying to get selected as the opening act for a warped tour concert right now, and that might give them some notability. I haven't seen the mini-series because I don't have cable. It looks really cool though and I hope I can either catch a re-run while I'm visiting family, or rent a DVD or something. I absolutely love US history and the Gadsen Flag is one of my favorite flags. Hope things are going well! Saksjn (talk) 19:14, 28 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Canadian Ivy League

Did you start the Canadian Ivy League article?

If so, a few comments:

(1) I'm a Canadian student and have never heard the term being used. (2) Nothwithstanding (1), if you are going to create this article, at least represent the evidence you have provided correctly. Read the paragraph you cite from David M. Thomas' book. He talks about Queens, then Western. THEN, he says, "ALONG WITH A FEW OTHER long-established universities such as Dalhousie...McGill...Toronto." Clearly the list includes FIVE schools. Furthermore, there is no way to argue it includes Queen's and not Western based on what he writes. (3) Something to keep in mind. He also says "In so far as there was ONCE a Canadian 'Ivy League'". He is not saying there is one now, or that this phrase has ever been used. What he is saying is that if this terminology ever existed in the PAST, then these are the five schools that were included. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.250.71.30 (talk) 20:11, 12 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Vandalism of the Eamon de Valera page

Hi Cornellrockey, As the teacher of some of the students who chose to mess with the above article earlier today, I would just like to apologise for their conduct. I will be dealing with the students tomorrow and will make known my unhappiness with their interference. Thank you so much for being so quick to spot and correct the vandalism. 78.16.30.80 (talk) 23:07, 13 May 2008 (UTC)
