[edit] Archaic?
Just a little driveby comment (feel free to delete after reading) to point out that not all of us think "one does not need..." is archaic. I (a 30-y-o Briton) use "one" quite a bit in everyday writing and even speech, and I'm rarely pulled up on it. 86.132.138.205 02:50, 20 September 2007 (UTC)
- Fair point - I put brevity before clarity. I (also British) do think this use of one is becoming redundant - but that is a hugely subjective perception. I certainly would not advocate editing out this useage as a general rule. The main reason for the change was the phrase didn't sit right with the rest of the paragraph and the tone of the article. I'd read it a couple of days previously and, reading it again, this sprung out at me. The change I made seemed to fit much better and remove a slight awkwardness. Again, very subjective.
