Corti is named Matteo Corti in real life and was born in the village of Breganzona (now part of Lugano) in Ticino, Switzerland in 1974. He studied computer science at ETH Zurich in Zurich, Switzerland and after his PhD he worked for three month for Freescale Semiconductor as a compiler engineer. He then went back to ETH in the Information and Communication (ICT) Services group.
