Talk:Cortes Bank

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

If Bishop Rock was at a depth of 98 feet, neither the clipper ship Bishop nor the Enterprise would have struck it and it wouldn't be buoyed because it wouldn't be a hazard to any shipping. It's been many years since I was in the area, but I believe the correct depth of the rock is about 9 ft. The U.S. Coast Pilot 7 39th edition says a wreck covered 3 ft 200 yards from the rock itself is the shoalest point on Cortes Bank.

Additionally, I'm not sure why a spot called 9 Fathom Bank (54 feet) would also be 98 feet deep. Someone with access to a chart could check this.RZid 07:06, 14 March 2007 (UTC)
