[edit] Linking to the Cornwall Record Office Online Catalogue
Some advice regarding adding links to particular pages on the CRO Online Catalogue.
Please note that if you do a search for a particular place, person or catalogue on the database and then find one entry in particular that you wish to link to, the URL for that particular page may not permanently direct you to the entry in question. For instance a search for Roskear http://crocat.cornwall.gov.uk/dserve/dserve.exe?dsqIni=Dserve.ini&dsqApp=Archive&dsqDb=Catalog&dsqCmd=Overview.tcl&dsqSearch=((text)='roskear') brings up the index pages for all Roskear entries on the database. If, for instance, you have a particular interest in entry no 47 (at present P240/2/29) http://crocat.cornwall.gov.uk/dserve/dserve.exe?dsqIni=Dserve.ini&dsqApp=Archive&dsqCmd=Show.tcl&dsqDb=Catalog&dsqPos=46&dsqSearch=((text)='roskear') (entry 1 is given as position 0 in the URL), and wish to link to it, then it is likely that other Roskear entries will, over time, be added and which appear above the entry in question, which may then become entry 48 or 49 etc. So, for these individual entry references, find the CRO catalogue reference number in question (in this case P240/2/29) and do a new search for this in the RefNo field. This will bring up a results index page featuring only this one entry at http://crocat.cornwall.gov.uk/dserve/dserve.exe?dsqIni=Dserve.ini&dsqApp=Archive&dsqDb=Catalog&dsqCmd=Overview.tcl&dsqSearch=(RefNo='P240/2/29'). Click on the number to the left of the title and this will bring up the description page for this item http://crocat.cornwall.gov.uk/dserve/dserve.exe?dsqIni=Dserve.ini&dsqApp=Archive&dsqCmd=Show.tcl&dsqDb=Catalog&dsqPos=0&dsqSearch=(RefNo='P240/2/29'), and this URL should remain permanently valid.
The results page for a search on any particular word(s) or phrase e.g. for Wheal Lemon http://crocat.cornwall.gov.uk/dserve/dserve.exe?dsqIni=Dserve.ini&dsqApp=Archive&dsqDb=Catalog&dsqCmd=Overview.tcl&dsqSearch=((text)='wheal%20lemon'), can be linked to directly as when and if new entries containing the same word(s) or phrase are added to the database these will automatically be added to the results page. Likewise links to individual catalogues, e.g. for HB (Henderson Bull) http://crocat.cornwall.gov.uk/dserve/dserve.exe?dsqIni=Dserve.ini&dsqApp=Archive&dsqDb=Catalog&dsqCmd=Overview.tcl&dsqSearch=(RefNo='HB') will also work in the same way.
To eliminate the entries for printed books which appear at the beginning of some search result pages (these entries comprise a title and nothing else) add ( before the word text and AND(RefNo='*')) to the end of the link. So the ordinary search for Truro http://crocat.cornwall.gov.uk/dserve/dserve.exe?dsqIni=Dserve.ini&dsqApp=Archive&dsqDb=Catalog&dsqCmd=Overview.tcl&dsqSearch=((text)='truro') will bring up several pages of books, whereas a search for Truro with * in the RefNo field http://crocat.cornwall.gov.uk/dserve/dserve.exe?dsqIni=Dserve.ini&dsqApp=Archive&dsqDb=Catalog&dsqCmd=Overview.tcl&dsqSearch=(((text)='truro')AND(RefNo='*')) will eliminate these. The results of such searches do however take longer to load.
Please also note that the DD part of (older) catalogue references is no longer in use, e.g. DDP120 is P120, DDV is V etc.
