[edit] Biography
After his birth in Columbus, Ohio, Cory's family relocated to Phoenix, Arizona, where he was raised until he departed for college in 1995. Throughout his high school years his interest in music began to blossom. He formed his first band, called Liquid, at the age of 17. This four-piece band performed often in the valley but disbanded in 1996 over musical differences. Throughout college Cory joined a few groups to sharpen his talents and work on his writing. In 1998 he decided it was time to learn an instrument to take his songwriting to the next level. It has been said that he is self taught and learned by staying in his basement for hours listening to Nirvana and The Beatles discovering the chords used. In college he placed a few awards in various showcases at Evangel University. He has had songs featured on various college radio stations and a national Christian station.
[edit] Touring
Cory Basil spent most of 2005 and 2006 playing out and touring with Kevin Max (formerly of dcTalk) acting as personal assistant and tour manager. He also did some special performances with Kevin Max, and sometimes opened the shows. After switching to a mainstream platform in 2005, he was becoming a staple in the Phoenix area, and decided it best to hit the road with friend and artist Kevin Max. The tour started in New York and finished up in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He has also performed concerts with Grammy nominee Sarah Kelly, and Dove award winners Chasing Furies.
[edit] Prequel
Cory released an EP under his former name, Cory Thompson, in the year 2000 with Fly on the Wall Records, a local label in Phoenix, Arizona. With this small project called "Prequel" he toured the Philippines. This album is scarce now as he has changed his name and no other copies were released after the change.
[edit] Further Projects
In January of 2007, he entered the studio to begin working on a full-length album with the name yet to be released. His websites and blog indicate that he will be in the studio until May of 2007, and that the album will be released sometime in the summer of 2007. It is rumored that this album will have a few of the hit songs from his live performance such as "to the future" and "untitled moment."
