Corporal Snark is a fictional character in Joseph Heller's novel Catch-22. Corporal Snark was originally the mess sergeant. To prove that the soldiers had bad taste, he poisoned their sweet potatoes with soap chips, causing a diarrhea outbreak. Because of this, he was demoted and replaced by Milo Minderbinder. Snark felt he proved himself correct because the men ate the soap and came back for seconds.
Later on, when a mission to Bologna seems imminent, Yossarian asks Snark to put soap in the sweet potatoes again in order to cause delays, successfully giving the soldiers another bout of diarrhea.
