Coronado High School, located on the west side of El Paso, Texas, USA, is a public high school, managed by the El Paso Independent School District. Its feeder schools are Morehead Middle School and Lincoln Middle School.

Coronado High's mascot, inspired by a natural silhouette on its Franklin Mountain backdrop, is the Thunderbird, shortened to T-Bird, and its slogan is "The Pride of the West Side." The school's name honors Spanish conquistador Francisco Vázquez de Coronado, whose expeditions in the southwest took him through what is now El Paso. Coronado's school colors are blue and gold. The school has a strong rivalry with the Franklin High School Cougars.

The mission of Coronado High School is to advance the academic, artistic, emotional, physical, and social education of every student in order to develop productive citizens.
Coronado High School has offered the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme since 2000. Students who are accepted into the program take a series of examinations at the end of a four-year curriculum.[1]

Coronado has four main buildings labled as A, B, C, or D. D Building is also known as the Freshman Center. Along with these buildings, Coronado has a new Fine Arts building, the Quarles Thunderbird Stadium, the Baseball and Softball fields, the Tennis courts, the Cafeteria, the Agricultural Building, the Big Gym, and the Small Gym. To the south of the Small Gym lies about 19 portables that also provide classes. The administrative office is located in A building just beyond the main entrance to the school.

The Coronado High School Marching Band has won the Grand Champion ranking at the Tournament of Bands competition at New Mexico State University for the past three years, and holds the most wins in the history of the 30+ year competition.[citation needed]
The Thunderbird Marching Band and Symphonic Ensembles are one of only ten high school bands to have received both the Sudler Flag of Honor and the Sudler Shield, the two most prestigious honors bestowed upon a high school marching and concert ensemble.
Coronado High School has competed numerous times at the Texas UIL State Marching Contest, nationally at many Bands of America regional marching contests, and internationally throughout various continents.

The Coronado High School Orchestra is nationally ranked. In 2002 the Coronado symphony orchestra performed at Carnegie Hall in New York City. The group played at Carnegie Hall again in 2007.[3]The Coronado orchestra has traveled to various locations around the world to perform, including Italy, Japan, Boston and more. The group is currently directed by Ida Steadman. She is a Texas String Teacher of the Year winner.
