Coro Laus Deo et matri dei

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Laus Deo choir was founded in Heredia, Costa Rica in the year 2000, aiming at fostering the culture of music and choral singing in that country. Since its origins, Laus Deo has developed its music from two scopes. On the one hand, this group interprets a polyphonic repertoire—classical sacred music, gospel music, Negro spiritual music, and Latin American music. On the other, Laus Deo devotes some of its time to the interpretation of repertoire of the popular sort, be it sacred, Latin American, and mainly, Costa Rican compositions. Such flexibility in its repertoire makes Laus Deo attract a very diverse group of followers, which contributes to a great spreading at a national level.

Laus Deo choir includes twenty singers who, despite the fact of not being professional musicians, have received a basic training in reading sheet music, solfeggio, and singing by their director, Fabián Zamora Bolaños.

Laus Deo has participated in diverse musical activities. Among them, special prominence can be given to the recording of four CD’s; the concert for the release of the first CD in the National Auditorium (San José, 2004); the presentation of Vivaldi’s Gloria in collaboration with Channel 15 of the University of Costa Rica (Heredia, 2004); the participation in the staging of “Punto de Origen” in conjunction with the Arts Department of the University of Texas (San José, 2004); the collaboration in the international concert “El Canto nos Hermana” presented in the Melico Salazar Theater, whose purpose was to minimize the differences between Costa Ricans and Nicaraguans (San José, 2006); and the outdoor spectacle Navidad Magica (San Jose, Heredia, Alajuela, Cartago, 2007).

Currently, Laus Deo is planning on a tour around different towns in Costa Rica to present its new latin american music repertoire.
