WaY fm is a dual-station radio network in Southwest Michigan which operates as a broadcast ministry of Cornerstone University. WAYK 88.3 fm in Kalamazoo, Mich., went on the air on February 1, 1997, and WAYG 89.9 fm in Grand Rapids, Mich., joined WaY fm network on February 1, 1999.
WaYfm streams its 24-hour youth-oriented mix of alternative Christian music with an edge and youth-targeted programming to challenge and encourage teens and young adults to live for Jesus Christ. The response has been overwhelmingly positive, with an audience of 70,000 listeners.
During 2001, WaYfm hosted or co-hosted 17 concerts, with in excess of 40,000 total attendees, and another 11 large non concert-driven events. Rich Anderson, morning host and station manager, estimates that in excess of 500 people made decisions as a direct result of WaYfm programming or WaYfm-sponsored events in 2001. About 20% of those decisions were first-time commitments to Christ.
[edit] His Kids Radio
His Kids Radio is a subscription-only SCA-based radio station operated by WCSG, a Contemporary Christian FM radio station owned and operated by Cornerstone University in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
History His Kids Radio began as CSN, the Children's Sonshine Network. It broadcast Christian children's programming. CSN featured taped-programs such as The Sugar Creek Gang (Moody Bible Institute) and Adventures in Odyssey (Focus on the Family). They also had a live phone-in show on Saturday mornings.
An extensive program guide was available from WCSG. When the station was not airing special programs it would play Christian children's music, most of which was from Christian children's artists and musicals; much of the content could be purchased at a local Christian bookstore. "Night Light" was a six-hour period from midnight to 6:00 A.M. where the station played soothing instrumentals punctuated by comforting narratives of Bible verses.
The radio service utilized an SCA subcarrier signal of WCSG's 91.3 MHz FM transmission. Special SCA / FM receivers were required to receive CSN programming; they were available from local churches and direct from WCSG for an initial receiver fee plus a programming fee of five dollars per month.
Today His Kids Radio can be heard using the same SCA / FM receivers for a programming fee of $14.99 a month. Their network has grown to stations across the United States, and in some areas the signal is available over regular AM and FM radio stations. The SkyAngel Christian satellite TV broadcast service offers His Kids Radio programming on channel 9750. It can also be heard online at their official website.
