Cornelius Lysaght

Cornelius Lysaght is the horse racing correspondent of the BBC, usually broadcasting on Five Live radio. He took up this post in 2001, succeeding the late Peter Bromley, who had held the position since 1959.

Lysaght, who was raised in Herefordshire and educated at Eton College, alongside Boris Johnson, led Five Live's racing team to one of radio's 'Oscars', a Sony Award for its acclaimed Cheltenham Festival coverage (2003).

Earlier, he became a cult figure in the 1990s when appearing on BBC Radio 1 as the voice of Mark and Lard's daily competition feature Dobbins or Bobbins.

He lives in Warwickshire and shares his birth date (January 27th) with fellow Five Live presenter Mark Pougatch.

His racing colours- red and white hoops, black sleeves with red armlets and a black cap- have been carried to victory by a number of horses including Bourdonner (4 races) and most recently by Almire Du Lia trained by Susan Bradburne in Fife, Scotland.
