Core (album)

Core is the debut album by American hard rock band Stone Temple Pilots. It was released on September 29, 1992, by Atlantic Records. The album was certified 8x platinum by the RIAA, and is both STP's best-selling record and one of the best-selling albums of all time in the United States. Album sales were propelled by the hit singles "Plush", which won a Grammy Award in 1993, "Creep", "Sex Type Thing", and "Wicked Garden", all of which have since become modern and alternative rock radio staples. According to a 2007 interview with Rolling Stone, Core and Velvet Revolver's 2007 album Libertad, were the only albums singer Scott Weiland has written sober.

"Plush" won the 1993 Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock performance.
Stone Temple Pilots also won the MTV Video Music Award for Best New Artist award at the 1993 MTV Music Video Awards.
"Wicked Garden", "Naked Sunday", "Piece of Pie", and "Where the River Goes" also appear on the Mighty Joe Young Demo and were re-recorded for Core. There was also a song on the demo called "Piece of Pie", but it is a completely different song than the song on Core of the same name, except for the fact that they have the same guitar solo and bass line.
Core was released on the same day as the Alice in Chains album Dirt, another important album from the grunge era.
Lead singer Scott Weiland is credited only by his last name for vocals and lyrics. His full name is not mentioned anywhere in the album's liner notes.
"Plush" was featured on the soundtrack for the video game, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.
