The Coral Sea gregory, Stegastes gascoynei, is a damselfish of the family Pomacentridae, found on coral and rocky reefs in the western Pacific Ocean at depths of between 1 and 30 m. Its length is up to 15 cm.
The Coral Sea gregory has a body and head primarily brown, yellow-orange on the ventral portion. A blue streak runs from the snout to the suborbital region. There are blue or purplish spots on the opercular series. Each scale has a dark brown streak near its margin, appearing as a series of narrow transverse bands. The dorsal fin is brown, somewhat translucent towards the tail. The caudal fin is tan to brown, the outermost part being translucent to yellowish. The anal and pelvic fins are yellow to orange. The pectoral fins are transparent with a suffusion of yellow with a small dark spot superiorly at its base.
