Articles

I participated in a discussion about possible copyright problems with this article -- see Talk:Gun laws in the United States (by state)#Material copied from CarryConcealed.net. As I said there, certain sections of the article were copied from ConcealedCarry.net, back in June, in an apparent good faith attempt by an inexperienced editor to improve the article. If this is the possible copyright problem being discussed -- I don't see any specifics here, but I'm guessing it is -- I would volunteer to remove that material from the article. This is a large article, and many editors have worked hard to contribute original material, so the removal of the copied material needs to be done carefully. "P.S." Is this the right place to discuss this issue? — Mudwater 16:06, 16 February 2008 (UTC)
I have created a new version of the article with the copyrighted material removed, at Talk:Gun laws in the United States (by state)/Temp. Material that was copied from CarryConcealed.net has been removed from the sections for Colorado, Delaware, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Tennessee, and Wyoming. Additionally, I deleted material from the New Mexico section that was copied from http://www.dps.state.nm.us/lawEnforcement/ccw/ccwFaq.php. I also deleted material from the Oklahoma section that was a straight copy of some state laws. That's not a copyright violation, but the article should be written by Wikipedia editors, with only short quotes, not extended passages, from the actual laws. I believe that this new version of the article solves the copyright violation problems. "P.S." Should this discussion take place here, or on the article's talk page? — Mudwater 20:46, 16 February 2008 (UTC)
The copyrighted material has been removed from the article. Thanks to Admiral Norton and The Evil Spartan for their help. See Talk:Gun laws in the United States (by state)#Possible copyright infringement for additional discussion of this topic. — Mudwater 04:36, 17 February 2008 (UTC)
