Things have gotten a bit more interesting, G. Harry McLaughlin (User:Neurolinguist), the SMOG author and the owns the website in question has added a GFDL notice to the bottom of the page and responded to the copyvio. In addition, the SMOG article should likely be merged with SMOG Index, an Image upload by readability studio employee, I have rewritten SMOG in fear we were going to have a GFDL boilerplate over 2 paragraphs of text, and quite possible all the reading test should be merged together. —Dispenser (talk) 01:22, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
I have verified that a GFDL notice exists. So this seems OK now - I've revertet to pre-notice version. Thanks! --Alvestrand (talk) 15:15, 12 January 2008 (UTC)
Link "1" is incorrect; I have asked CIreland on this talk page what the correct URL is. Schutz (talk) 16:46, 30 December 2007 (UTC)
Correct url is http://www.retecivica.trieste.it/triestecultura/musei/civicimusei/risiera/brochure/Risiera%20inglese%20per%20e-brochure.pdf. CIreland (talk) 19:54, 30 December 2007 (UTC)

Images

  • Image:Berks arms.gif (history · last edit) License listed is not appropriate for this image. Coat of arms images are eligible for copyright just like any other work of art (see commons:COM:COA), and as an image generated using a computer, it's unlikely for it to be 50 years old. Image is not currently available at the listed website ([16]), but if that's where it came from, we can't use it, because they list their copyright policy as © Nash Ford Publishing 2006. All Rights Reserved. -- I. Pankonin (t/c) 08:09, 27 December 2007 (UTC)
According to commons:COM:COA, a Coat of Arms "freely drawn after a model" is righted to the artist that drew it. This image appears to be drawn with the image on the website as a model, but not as a derivative work or a simple conversion. As evidence, I note that there are numerous differences between the two images, including the lack of the large helmet/ribbon element, and the stag/elk facing forward. So unless I'm mistaken, this isn't a copyright problem; the artist is fully able to release this work into the public domain. -kotra (talk) 02:07, 28 December 2007 (UTC)
True, but the uploader didn't claim to make it. It might have been on the site at an earlier date, and the site's owner uploaded a new image. I'm inclined to believe this, because the uploader seemed to believe that the image was public domain. Why would he create a new one if he believed he could freely use the one on the internet? -- I. Pankonin (t/c) 07:13, 29 December 2007 (UTC)
Yes, after looking over the tag again (I thought it was just a generic public domain tag and not a UK Government type), it's pretty clear that this image is mis-tagged. It certainly isn't 50 years old (unless the uploader was talking about the original design of the coat of arms, which I don't think is the correct basis), and if it's from that website or drawn by the uploader, it's probably not by the UK Government either. Hopefully the uploader will clear this up for us. -kotra (talk) 13:28, 30 December 2007 (UTC)

  • Image:Rpedros.jpg, this would normally be a speedy delete, the (absent) user has uploaded it under GDFL, but creditied it to the FFF, the problem comes from the drived works Image:SportBarnstar.jpg and Image:RPBarnstar.jpg. something for a diplomatic editor to look at! • Image:Pinkfloyd-vegman.ogg (history · last edit) from "the bootleg album Psychedelic Games for May". As far as I know, unauthorized bootleg albums aren't ok to source from, as they are usually illegal themselves (this would be sort of like repeating slander that was started by someone else). Also, the length of 34 seconds exceeds "10 percent of the song's original length or 30 seconds, whichever is shorter" (from WP:NFURG). kotra (talk) 01:48, 28 December 2007 (UTC)
  • Image:David.jpg (history · last edit). File history and description do not match, making the current image suspect along with the purported copyright status. The uploader was previously notified previously (User_talk:AlisonRussell). Note that the description does match the original image that was uploaded, but this is unrelated to the current or intermediate revisions which is of David Copperfield (illusionist)Sladen (talk) 16:28, 29 December 2007 (UTC)
