[edit] Use by deacon

The article says: "It (i.e. the Cope) is now the vestment assigned to the celebrant, whether priest or bishop, for almost all functions in which the chasuble is not used, for example in processions, in the greater blessings and consecrations, at the solemnly celebrated Liturgy of the Hours, in giving Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament, and the celebration of other sacraments outside of Mass." Is it worn by a Deacon who does these where allowed? Richardson mcphillips1 (talk) 20:09, 11 February 2008 (UTC)

The cope can be worn by a deacon as it is a vestment proper to all ranks of clergy. The cope can be worn when the deacon is the celebrant or assistant for the solemn recitation for the Divine Office. Deacons also may wear the cope for processions. This information could be included in the article, but the use of the cope by a deacon is very rarely seen today.
