[edit] Summary

Photo taken by CC Cook (Charles Christian Cook) - famous racehorse photographer of the early and mid-1900's. Cropped versions of this photo circulate on Internet sites. I obtained my copy from Wide World Photos (AP) in NYC about 1980. I believe the photo is now generally in the public domain. This photo shows Man O' War in his stretch run of the Stuyvesant Handicap at the old Jamaica racetrack in Queens, New York on June 22, 1920. Man O' War carried 135 pounds in this one-mile race, spotted the second place horse 32 pounds, and won by an estimated eight to ten lengths in a canter.
