The Coptic Hospital (Arabic:المستشفى القبطي) is a name given to many hospitals , two in Egypt in Cairo and Alexandria and other churces one of them is in Nairobi , Kenya[1],[2]

The idea of establishing a hospital by the Coptic Orthodox Church started n the late nineteenth century and in the 1920s in a group of Coptic doctors met together on a regular basis for fellowship and discussion. This group included El Menyawi Pasha and Naguib Pasha Mahfouz . On of the blessings of these meetings was the formation of the first Coptic hospital , opened in Azbakeya , this hospital was famous for the work of Naguib Pasha Mahfouz in it[3],and it was governed by a council appointed by the church and it is still in the same place at 175, Ramses Street Azbakeya[4]

[edit] Nationalisation

Cairo Coptic Hospital was nationalised in the 1960s and it is currently run by a government body , however the Coptic Church continued to give the name to its hospitals outside Egypt.
