Copa Libertadores 2005

São Paulo won the 2005 Copa Libertadores (Liberators Cup), the 46th edition of the tournament. The victory also qualified them for the 2005 FIFA Club World Championship, which they won.

São Paulo becomes the first Brazilian team to win the Cup on three occasions. The team also won the event in 1992 and 1993.

It was the first time ever that two teams from the same country have reached the final match. Due to some modifications on the tournament rules, this was impossible until 2004. This year's tournament was also the first Copa Libertadores to employ the away goals rule in knockout ties.

This tournament also was responsible for giving São Paulo coach Paulo Autuori his second cup championship (his first one was conquered at 1997 with Cruzeiro), matching the club's legendary coach Telê Santana.
