[edit] Your Article

I have copied your article into the pretty box at the top of your talk page, just hit the sandbox link. You can work on it there without getting disturbed. It's certainly a lenghty article. Funnily enough I read one of your sources earlier when I was still trying to figure out who Captain Vielle was. He was certainly a pioneer. A couple of things just to keep you on your toes:-

  • Is the article going to be a Biography that focuses on the 1692-94 period?
  • Is this going to be entirely about the expedition with the french/native british/french background?

If you decide on one of those options you are ready to start "Wikifying" it.

  • A short paragraph boiling down the article. Its ok to repeat whole sentences, so as to give the reader they have come to the right article.
  • Seperate the different ideas into sections Background, Albany, Colonial Government, Political Tensions. With an article like this you have an endless choice.
  • Time to Wikilink, and add your sources to the sentences and paragraphs.

I hope it is of help, I will give you a hand anytime you want (as long as I am at the computer), but please make sure you are going to take a definate path. At the moment it just looks like a short period of history that seems vague about what its goal is. Good luck Mike33 04:03, 12 July 2007 (UTC)

I am so very grateful for your assistance. And, you are right on target as the various approach to how one should do this treatment. I am not a proper writer for such things. Local historians do on occasion ask me about the legends I've researched to have local credence with proper documentation and the other kind, stories. I'll wish to include, as you suggest, add the upper Ohio River people he met in the "Sand Box". May I invite you to do the better writing on this article, please?

What I'll do is write a short biography about Cpt A. C. Viele (a very interesting man (but no pocahontas)). can you wait a couple of days and we can have two brand new articles out of your research and what i found on Tuesday?

Mike33 18:24, 12 July 2007 (UTC)

Thankyou so very much. His mention on this encyclopedia as you say is quite proper. I simply wish I could write as well as you and understand the syntac of the Sand Box. Please take Liberty as you see fit. Perhaps in time, I'll learn the concepts here. Thankyou again for adopting this article and your idea.Conaughy 21:31, 12 July 2007 (UTC)

I don't know about composition, but, my son pointed out to me that this is simply html with mark-ups. Now maybe, copy and past of things I wrote in my more youthful days and family checking my grammer may be considered as "OK" by Wikipedians. My son attempted to explain the term "expand". I've read the "tips" and "comments" provided by Wikipedia and most days, I'm just plain "dumb". Easily with info overload on my state of being, I reminded my son that there are no less than three ways that could be meant by a term "expand." Does Wikipedia term simply mean create a new article because of too much detail in the present article and then link to a smaller form of the subject in the new article? Or, the present article's sub-section is vague and needs more clarification-- addition paragraphs? I understand, basically, when an outline or INDEX in a book becomes "clumsy". In the coarse of publication, sometimes, these are only debatable, though. And, sometimes they have, indeed, become illogical. Conaughy 17:00, 14 July 2007 (UTC)

You're a star :-) Wikipedia has a language of it own, carefully cut and pasted from the outer realms of the universe and considered more sacred than the Talmud/Vulgate/KJV. I wouldn't worry. What you have given Wikipedia is more than enough, now that we have formulated a couple of approaches to it; I will sit down on Sunday afternoon (glass of scotch by my side) and create something that looks like anything else on Wikipedia. Then you can start the important task of editing what I have done and on the understanding that two heads are better than one your original article can announce itself to the world.

Expand in this sense is creating an article that looks like a mosaic with lots of pretty blue links :-) Mike33 22:00, 14 July 2007 (UTC)

I figured the answer was the 3rd guess that eluded me. Conaughy 07:38, 30 July 2007 (UTC)

I left a message on the Talk: West Virginia page. I intended no offense. Please accept my apology and do not become discouraged by my comments. There are tons of editors who can help "wikify" good content, and far fewer who can bring in the good stuff. Mark in Historic Triangle 18:18, 13 August 2007 (UTC)

I am having some trouble reading part of the text in the sections you are working on due to font size. I am interested in this content; could it be my monitor, or do we need to increase format size a little; BTW, stay with it, please. I wish we had this kinds of Native American detail in the Virginia articles. Mark in Historic Triangle 15:00, 14 August 2007 (UTC)

I'm too old and too dumb to deal with this. It's been removed. Conaughy 13:21, 15 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Too much valuable content is being lost to WP by your actions today

I fear you responded to an older message before my apology, which I thought you accepted. I don't want you to do what you are now doing. Too much valuable content is being lost to WP by your actions today.
The people you have studied didn't give up so easily, and neither should you. A lot of us (like me) are neither young nor computer trained, but we have a lot to offer anyway. You are obviously anxious to only present work you feel good about. You have to let others help you polish your stuff to end up feeling that way, but WP educates many and is worth the hassle.
I have a suggestion for you if you will compromise: If you concentrate your work in the History of West Virginia article, the best of it (including any help needed with WP related references and presentation) can be refined by collaboration, and we can add that content to the main WV article.
Please, reconsider? Mark in Historic Triangle 13:58, 15 August 2007 (UTC)

I'll continue to support our local state museums and the occasional university field scholar. Conaughy 23:40, 15 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Your recent edits

Hi there. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. If you can't type the tilde character, you should click on the signature button Image:Signature_icon.png located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your name and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. Thank you! --SineBot (talk) 08:58, 1 March 2008 (UTC) Thanks for reminding. I was using only three when I remembered to sign Conaughy (talk) 06:25, 5 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Message to Vaoverland

I got your recent message on my talk page. Last year, I think my efforts ended up hurting Wikipedia because you were hurt or offended, which I surely did not intend. I am very glad to see you are back; we have many people who can tidy up a presentation and so forth, but far fewer who can contribute the deep facts and content as you do. I would suggest that you continue to add what you can the way you can, and you can bet that others will do that simpler work building upon your contributions. Welcome back. Mark in Historic Triangle of Virginia (talk) 22:41, 5 March 2008 (UTC)

Thankyou kindly for your assistance. I will be needing it for sure. -- No Sir, I took no offence one your part, but, 'of my own personal frustration. Again, I'm thanking you and wishing you and WIKI the best Conaughy (talk) 07:23, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

I got your recent message and will gladly take a look. I am currently having limited time for Wikipedia due to a new job, so please be patient. Glad to see you are back at contributing. Thanks, Mark in Historic Triangle of Virginia (talk) 19:20, 16 April 2008 (UTC)

It has become a great pleasure to read your contributions to WIKI and thanks for assistance. That, too, is appreciated. Conaughy (talk) 07:33, 4 June 2008 (UTC)

Hi Conaughy!

[edit] History of West Virginia

Just noticed this article while recent change patrolling. You are doing an excellent job in the article. Just a little advice. The article in its present form is 98 KB long. The standard article size is generally 32 KB. May I suggest you that you split the information into multiple article. It will help you both in article count and to maintain the articles. Otolemur crassicaudatus (talk) 03:20, 4 May 2008 (UTC)

Thankyou kindly. I was wondering about the size for slow modem loading reasons. May be "West Virginia Prehistory" and "West Virginia River History" might make sense? Conaughy (talk) 03:40, 4 May 2008 (UTC)

You are right. It need to be divided into prehistory separate article. Otolemur crassicaudatus (talk) 04:09, 4 May 2008 (UTC)

Thankyou for being an excellent communicator and WIKI helper, Otolemur crassicaudatus. You are very much appreciated Conaughy (talk) 22:12, 9 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Image source problem with Image:Kmadonna.jpg

Image Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading Image:Kmadonna.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 14:12, 26 May 2008 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Polly (Parrot) 14:12, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Possibly unfree Image:Kmadonna.jpg

An image that you uploaded or altered, Image:Kmadonna.jpg, has been listed at Wikipedia:Possibly unfree images because its copyright status is disputed. If the image's copyright status cannot be verified, it may be deleted. You may find more information on the image description page. You are welcome to add comments to its entry at the discussion if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you. Polly (Parrot) 13:39, 27 May 2008 (UTC) --Polly (Parrot) 13:39, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

Thankyou, Parrot for helping in keeping WIKI-correct. It is appreciated... Conaughy (talk) 07:24, 4 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Pisgah Phase

Conaughy, I see in the history of the the article that you were not sure what I was wanting with my tag. I believe that you missed the post that I made on the articles talk page, Talk:Pisgah_Phase. After looking at it, feel free to reply there, I will put it on my watch list. Click23 (talk) 13:34, 4 June 2008 (UTC)
