Just thought I'd try this out first...
I'm from England, and am in the Upper Sixth Form (last year of school before University) at the Knights Templar School in Baldock, Hertfordshire. I'm currently taking the following subjects:
to A2 level. I will also be doing a 6th AS level in Further Mathematics (additional). Itook the Mathematics Advanced Extention Award a year early, achieving a Merit. I applied to the following Universities through the UCAS system in October:
and have recieved all five offers:
- AAB in Maths, Further Maths and either Physics or Music from Durham
- AAB in Maths and 2 other subjects unspecified from St. Andrews
- AAA or AAB including Further Maths for Bristol
- AAA in Maths, Further Maths and Physics, including As in C1-4 and FP1-3 from Imperial College London
- 1,1 in STEP papers II and III for Peterhouse! I don't need any A-level grades
Unsurprisingly, Cambridge is my first choice! My insurance offer is from Durham, the rest were declined.
I recently took my Grade 8 Piano (achieving a merit) and will be taking Grade 8 Theory along with Grade 6 Singing in the summer term, and Grade 8 Clarinet if I can motivate myself for it! (See Music Examinations). I also play the Bass Clarinet and the Baritone Saxophone. I practice Archery (Longbow), though I haven't been in ages, and am taking part in D of E (Gold Level), for which I went on an expedition to Snowdonia.
For my Grade 8 Clarinet my pieces are:
- List A - Allegro amibile, Sonata Op. 120 No.2, in E-flat major (Johannes Brahms)
- List B - either Allegro con brio, Sonatina for Clarinet Op. 29 (Malcolm Arnold) or Fughetta, Five Bagatelles Op. 23 (Gerald Finzi)
- List C - either Giga, no. 19 from 21 Pieces for Clarinet (Bach, trans. Giampieri) or I Got Rhythm, Three Etudes on thmes of Gershwin (Paul Harvey)
For my Grade 6 Singing, my pieces are:
- List A - My Lovely Celia (George Munro)
- List B - Komm bald (Johannes Brahms)
- List C - Mamble, from "Three Cotswold Songs" (Michael Head)
- List D - If Ever I Would Leave You, from Camelot (Frederick Loewe)
- Folksong - The Cuckoo (Somerset)
I'm a member of most of the school music clubs: Concert Orchestra, Concert Wind Band, All Stars Big Band (and Early Birds as required), Senior Choir, Senior Chamber Choir (SCC) and the Clarinet Choir (when it's around). There is a Male Harmony Choir (Barber Shop basically) periodically, and a Wind Quintet a few years ago. I help out with the choir and woodwind ensemble in SMMS, and play in the wind band there, simply because I've never bothered to leave (this is my 9th year I think!).
Outside of school I'm a member of Cantate Senior Choir (CSC, not to be confused with SCC), with which I've sung in some great concerts in venues such as the Royal Albert Hall and St. Paul's Cathedral. I was in one of the Songs of Praise recording they've done (they did 2 the year before I joined) and we plan to enter the 2008 Choral Olympics in July, which will be held in Graz, Austria.
Political Stance: I recognise Kosovo as an independant state. ;)
