[edit] Template commented out due to anachronsim

I have commented out the contents of this template because it is based on an anachronism.

The constituencies are listed by London Borough, but the London Boroughs were not created until 1965. The 1918-1945 constituencies were divisions of the Metropolitan boroughs, and it is misleading to represent them as if they were divisions of the London Boroughs. The London Boroughs were not ceated by simply merging the Met Boroughs, and in some cases boundaries intersect those of the predecessor Metropolitan boroughs. It cannot be presumed that the constituencies listed here fall wholly within the boundaries of the post-1965 London boroughs.

This template should ideally be revised to use the borough structure in force at the time. Alternatively, constituency and borough boundaries should be checked so that constituencies which fall within more than one of the post-1965 boroughs should be listed under both ... but that's a big job with, I think, a less satisfactory outcome. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 15:39, 17 August 2007 (UTC)

For example: the Metropolitan Borough of Wandsworth was split between the London Borough of Wandsworth and the London Borough of Lambeth. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 15:50, 17 August 2007 (UTC)
I can see your point, but with the maps I have available to me, I can see very little descrepency between present borders of London Boroughs and the old Metropolitan Boroughs. I see the template a reasonable source of infomation, and even though there may be small changes in boundaries, I see they are (suprisingly) similar to modern boundaries. I would like to see the template reinstated while we sort this out, rather than after, as it still presents reasonably (if not completely) accurate infomation. Jammydodger 16:30, 17 August 2007 (UTC)
Well, Wandsworth was divided, and so was Woolwich, and I haven't checked how many others, but it seems to me be wrong to knowingly present inaccurate info in the meantime, esp when it is distributed across about 70 articles. The constituencies are all listed in the London gazette by borough, so there shouldn't be that much work in sorting the list where the names aren't clear (here's a link to set of results in the Gazette, if that helps). --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 17:19, 18 August 2007 (UTC)
