Not widely known but played a pivotal role in the early parts of the cold war before missiles were developed.
It was mentioned in the article that the B-36 was not air refuelable. The movie "Strategic Air Command" is one of my favorites and I could swear that on a practice mission to Alaska from Texas that they showed an air refueling of a B-36.
