[edit] List of Recipients
Up to this point we have been listing the names of each recipient. With figures in the mid twenties this is manageable, although starting to look a little unwieldy. As the number of recipients of this decoration is only likely to increase, perhaps it is time to consider what we should do in the future.
See Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Orders, Decorations, and Medals#'Notable Recipients' for a connected discussion, on the future of 'Notable Recipients' sections. In this discussion I have proposed a solution to that particular problem, one which could equally well be applied hereāthe creation of categories for each recipient, in this case Category:Recipients of the Conspicuous Gallantry Cross.
Any views?

[edit] Note 2
Note 2 states that the award to the Royal Irish Regiment "is the first time this medal has been collectively awarded to a military unit, and only the third occasion that such a collective award has been bestowed (the others being the 1942 George Cross to Malta and the 1999 George Cross to the Royal Ulster Constabulary)". The statement that this is the third occasion that such a collective award has been bestowed ignores awards of British military decorations to French and Belgium cities in World War 1. I do not have a complete list (I would appreciate one if someone does) but Ypres and Verdun were awarded the Military Cross and Dunkirk, which was a major naval base for the British in World War 1, was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross. For the Military Cross award to the City of Verdun see http://query.nytimes.com/gst/abstract.html?res=9E07E0DB1F31E733A05757C1A96F9C946796D6CF Anthony Staunton (talk) 22:22, 14 March 2008 (UTC)
- I have amended Note 2 by adding "since the start of World War 2" to the original note 2 which was unaware of World War 1 British gallantry awards to French and Belgium cities. I also posed a question on 5 April 2008 to the Humanities Reference Desk seeking a complete list of British Gallantry awards to French and Belgium cities.
