Talk:Conjugated linoleic acid/Comments

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

CLA is of Mid importance; it gets a fair amount of coverage in the popular press, tho you probably wouldn't encounter it until a graduate-level class.

In quality; it's between a Start and a B. Good - chembox with diagram, original identification, lots of well-formatted references. ToDo:

  • Clean up large number of references that are not connected to text. I.e., put <ref> links from the body text to the reference text.
    • Ideally, there would only be a couple of 'general references' and they'd be review articles.
  • There is a lot more science that is mentioned in the refs than is actually summarized in the body text.
    • Especially about the anti-cancer links.
    • Some discussion of (putative) mechanisms by which CLA acts would be welcome
  • The legal status of CLA as a trans fat needs stating, clarifying.
  • Biosynthesis: CLAs are formed by bacteria in animal's rumens.
  • Coverage of weight loss and muscle building is spotty, disconnected.
  • Needs a section on commercial trade in CLA, which is a fairly large niche market.
  • CLA is a hot topic in body-building circles; needs some discussion of how its been handle in the muscle press.
