ControlByNet LLC was the first company to create a web-based IP surveillance software package that does not rely on a local program to administer changes. Its I-flashback surveillance platform relies only on web browsers to control. ControlByNet uses IP cameras as its primary device to receive video, and logically stores and handles the videos.

Many companies that relied on administration programs have moved into the IP surveillance area, but none are recognized as the original platform for web-based administration.
