Contai High School is the oldest school in the sub-divisional town of Contai, Purba Medinipur, West Bengal, India.
This is a semi-residential boys' Higher Secondary School. The school was established way back in 1857, in the same year that the Sepoy Mutiny took place. The whole school premises including the buildings, hostel, gymnasium, gardens and playground lay on land provided by Rishi Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay during his stay at Contai. In terms of performance in the board examinations, Contai High School has always been one of the frontrunners in the whole district[citation needed]. The school follows the course curricula of West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE) and West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education (WBCHSE) for Standard 10th and 12th Board examinations respectively. Birendranath Sasmal was a student of this school. Ex-students of this school are spread all over the world in various fields of work.
