Constance Lake First Nation

Constance Lake First Nation is an Oji-Cree First Nation in the Canadian province of Ontario, located in the Cochrane District a few kilometres north of Calstock. In May, 2008, the First Nation have a total registered population of 1,477 people, of which their on-reserve population was 740.

[edit] Governance
First Nation elects their leadership for a two-year term through the Act Electoral System. The current leadership is held by chief Hubert Moore, together with six (6) councillors: Charlie Baxter, Sr., Raymond Ferris, Beatrice Ineese, Kenneth Neegan, Stanley Stephens and Ronnie Wesley. Their two-year term began on May 28, 2007.
As a signatory to Treaty 9, the First Nation is a member of Matawa First Nations, a Regional Chiefs' Council; the Regional Chiefs' Council, in turn, is a member of the Nishnawbe Aski Nation, a Tribal Political Organization representing many of the First Nations in Northern and Northwestern Ontario.

Constance Lake First Nation have reserved for themselves the 3110.5 ha Constance Lake 92 Indian Reserve and the 3108 ha English River 66 Indian Reserve, of which Constance Lake 92 serves as their main Reserve. The community has existed in this area since the early 1940's, when the reserve was first established.

Constance Lake is policed by the Nishnawbe-Aski Police Service, an Aboriginal based service.
