Consolidated Theatres

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Consolidated Theatres was a movie theater chain based in Charlotte, North Carolina. The company operated over 400 movie screens and 28 theaters in 6 states along the East Coast.

It was part of "The Stone Group" and was founded by Herman Stone.

Its first theatre was the Arboretum Cinema 10 (Now the Arboretum Cinema 12) in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Its theatres usually had upwards of 10 auditoriums, which in some cases drove older competitors with fewer screens out of business.

Regal Entertainment Group completed acquisition of Consolidated Theaters on May 1, 2008[1].

As a condition of approval of the acquisition, the United States Department of Justice required that Regal sell 4 theaters from the Consolidated chain to ensure continued competition in the Charlotte and Raleigh, North Carolina, markets.[2]
