Conrad Gugy

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Conrad Gugy, (c. 173410 April 1786), was born in the Netherlands and likely followed his fathers career path and joined the Dutch army.

We do know that Conrad joined a newly formed British regiment, the King's Royal Rifle Corps as a lieutenant in 1756 and they served under General James Wolfe at Quebec in 1759. He remained in Canada and served as secretary to Sir Frederick Haldimand who became military governor of Trois-Rivières, Quebec in 1763.

Gugy bought the seigneury of Grandpré in 1764, retiring from his previous position as secretary. (This seigneury would pass to his nephew, Louis Gugy upon his death and then to Louis' son, Bartholomew Conrad Augustus Gugy).
