Conrad Bussow

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Conrad Bussow (1552 - 1617) was a German mercenary from Lower Saxony who lived in Russia throughout the first decade of the 17th-century.

Bussow arrived in Russia in 1600 and served many rulers and rebel leaders: False Dmitriy I Ivan Bolotnikov (in fact Bussow's description of the Bolotnikov rebellion is the most detailed provided by any contemporary observer), Tsar Vasily Shuisky.

Bussow's memoir "The Disturbed State of the Russian Realm" provides a valuable eye-witness account of 17th-century Russia.
