Connection is a popular single released by the Britpop group Elastica. It was originally released in 1994 as a single and the album version was not released until 1995 on the self-titled debut. It is also the theme tune to the UK television programme Trigger Happy TV.
The song was the subject of controversy, due to its overt similarity to another band's work. The intro synthesizer part (later also repeated on guitar) is lifted from the guitar riff in Wire's "Three Girl Rhumba" and transposed a semitone (the judgment resulted in an out-of-court settlement for which Wire received no compensation).
[edit] Music Video
The video, directed by David Mould, is performance-based, with Elastica performing on a white background with naked men sitting down around them. There are also close-up shots of singer Justine Frischmann as she performs, mainly to show off her facial expressions.
The video was featured on an episode of Beavis and Butt-head. Beavis claimed:
“ | It's like, they have all these dudes there, and like, they don't even think of them like people. They're just there, like they're these things for these chicks to look at and get off on, it's like, it's disgusting! This band should be ashamed of the way they're treating men, and um, and uh, these men shouldn't have the uh, they should not be in this video! | ” |
