[edit] Route Description
Route 343 begins at the New York state line as a continuation of New York State Route 343 in the town of Sharon. It heads generally northeast to an intersection with Route 4 and Route 41 in Sharon center where it ends after 1.5 miles.
[edit] History
In 1922, the road used by modern Route 343 was designated as part of New England Route 4, a multi-state route of the New England road marking system. In Connecticut, it continued north past Sharon center using modern Route 41. In 1926, New England Route 4 was redesignated as U.S. Route 7, however, by 1928, US 7 was relocated in Connecticut to its modern alignment. In the 1932 state highway renumbering, the Connecticut portion of New England Route 4 was mostly renumbered to Route 41. The piece west of Sharon center was designated as Route 343 in order to match the already existing route number in New York. Route 343 has had no significant changes since.[2]
