[edit] Boundaries
The constituency has identical boundaries to those of the Borough of Congleton, located in the south-east of Cheshire. It includes the towns of Congleton, Alsager, Holmes Chapel, Middlewich and Sandbach.
[edit] Boundary Review
Following their review of parliamentary representation in Cheshire, the Boundary Commission for England have made minor changes to the existing arrangement as a consequence of population changes. The electoral wards used in this seat are co-terminous with the borough of Congleton.
[edit] History
The constituency was established at the 1983 general election, largely from parts of the former Crewe and Knutsford constituencies. Since then it has been held comfortably by the Conservative Ann Winterton, the wife of Sir Nicholas Winterton, the MP for the adjacent Macclesfield constituency.
