Confirmed kill

A confirmed kill is a military term which classifies a kill as a specific incident. This differs from other types of kill confirmation such as simply estimating how many enemy were killed. If the unit has to leave the area immediately before a body count can be established, then the estimation will be innately less accurate than in situations where they control the field of operations afterwards, allowing them to confirm each kill. The term confirmed kill was used widely during the Vietnam War, since the strategy of both North Vietnamese and Viet Cong units was to attack and then disappear before American forces could call in their superior indirect fire.
