Conductive textile

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A Conductive Textile is a cross between the world of electric wires and the world of textiles, with attributes of each. Conductive textiles are used in woven and non-woven form for static dissipation and as a germicide. In woven or continuous form, conductive textiles are used for signal and power transfer in low resistance versions, and as a heating element in higher resistance versions. Their benefits come from flexibility, durability, and use in textile machinery (weaving, sewing, etc.)

Conductive textiles are either coated or embedded with electrically conductive elements, often carbon, nickel, copper, gold, silver, or titanium. Substrates can be any fiber, such as cotton, polyester, stainless steel to high performance fibers such as PBO (which is used to make AmberStrand {r) brand fiber). Crossing both worlds, conductive textiles are sold by weight or length, and measured in denier or AWG.
