The Concurso Internacional de ejecución musical Maria Canals is a musical competition held yearly in the Palau de la Música Catalana, Barcelona. Regarded as the dean of the Spanish piano competitions, it was founded as such in 1954 but ten years later it was expanded to Concurso Internacional de ejecución musical so other modalities could be held occasionally.[1][2]
The Maria Canals competition, for which artists such as Joan Miró, Antoni Tàpies or Joan Clavé have created posters, was declared of public utility by the Spanish Interior Ministry in 1996.
[edit] Comentaries on the competition
- Vlado Perlemuter, 1964.[3]
- Those of us follow the Barcelonan musical life can't forget the ascendant evolution of the Maria Canals International Music execution Competition, initiated in 1954 to turn into one most important European competition. In celebrating its 40th anniversary we can state that many performers of the highest level have arose from the competition, such a thing having contributed to expand the prestige of the barcelonan artistic reality. - Xavier Montsalvatge, 2004.[4]
